Mobile email beats social networking

... at least in terms of time spent on the mobile Internet.  According to this article in eMarketer, over 40% of the time Americans spend on the mobile web is actually spent on email, thus beating out all other services, including social networking.  More information may be found in the chart from eMarketer below:

Increasing focus on emerging markets from Yahoo!

As evidenced at the recent Communicasia industry conference in Singapore, more and more western companies are intensifying their efforts to expand in the region.  One of the more successul in this area is Yahoo!, which sees 25-30% of its global mobile audience coming from countries such as India, Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam.

Thus, in an effort to expand their Asian footprint, Yahoo! announced the release of a new handset developed in in cooperation with Alcatel and TCT Mobile of China.  This handset leverages Yahoo! API's to enable Yahoo! services such Mail, IM, Social Pulse, Search, and more at a low price point so customers in these markets can enjoy all the features and functionality of a high-end smart phone, but for a lower cost.

This is great news for both consumers in the emerging markets, and for technology companies wishing to expand there, especially ones similar to Momail.  The growth in the market, combined with the marketing power of companies such as Yahoo! will help to encourage even more customers to try new services on their mobile, and and thus expand opportunities for all.

Operators begin embracing data optimization

It feels like a lifetime since our first partnership discussions with operators - and how things have changed! Around 2006 operators were not open to Momail due to our unique data optimization technology, as using our email product may reduce their potential revenues since our customers consume so much less data.

However, over the last 2 years the market has changed greatly. Operators now encourage users to consume data, and have therefore begun to offer pricing plans and flat rates which make using the mobile web both easier and less expensive. As many others in the marketplace, Momail applauds these efforts.

Not only have operators begun offering better subscription plans for their customers, but they are also providing improved services.  For example, operators such as Telenor and Taiwan Mobile have chosen Momail for mobile email and digital content delivery, and Vodafone has chosen Opera Mini to enable customers in developing countries to more easily access the mobile web.

We look forward to both partnering with and hearing of more operators and choosing the light and lean option to offer customers improved mobile services which are faster and less expensive and thus provide better user experience for mobile users!

MWC 2010: Efficient Mobile Data services needed

Momail has just returned from another busy Mobile World Congress with many new ideas, new contacts and very constructive partner meetings. We're now even more excited for what is in store in 2010!

One of the more prevelant themes of the week was the need for more efficient mobile data services. Everyone from AT&T, to RIM, to even Facebook, were highlighting the need, and requesting solutions. It's clearly an interesting change given that just a few years ago operators were more concerned about increasing data usage, at a high cost to consumers, than making it more efficient. Now, with the advent of data intensive handsets such as the iPhone and Nexus One, they finally realize the need to better manage their infrastructure.

Of course, Momail has always known this time would come, and has been focused on efficient data delivery since day 1. While we can't claim that Momail can solve all the data issues, if more mobile customers used Momail (or Momail's technology) in place of their current email providers, it could clearly help operators and handset operators in their quest for more efficient data services!

Post to your social networks simultaneously

Momail makes it easy to post to your social networks simultaneously with the Momail Group Functionality. All you need to do is log into your Momail account, go to "Contacts", and choose "New Group". Here you can name your group whatever you'd like, and add email addresses for your email uploads.

For example, this morning I quickly created a group called "Pictures", added my email upload addresses for Twitter, Facebook and Flickr, and uploaded a picture of Paris directly from my phone. The entire process took less than 2 minutes!

So spread the word in more ways than one ;)

Momail saved its users 5M € in 2009

We all know Momail minimizes the amount of data used when delivering email to mobile handsets. But what does that mean to your wallet? In a rough estimate of per MB costs offered by operators in our biggest countries, we've estimated that Momail has saved its users almost 5 Million Euros thus far this year. That's alot of dough!

More information on Momail's data saving technology may be found in this posting and on our corporate site.

Is the Gmail mobile app really that good?

Momail's customers don't think so.

As most familiar with us know by now, one of the key features of Momail is that we enable users to consolidate their email into one easy to access mailbox, both on the mobile handset and web. According to our statistics, users forward their Gmail mail into Momail many, many times mor than any other major webmail service. The primary reasons:

- Usability: Momail is easier to use, and is available on more handsets
- Data optimization: Momail minimizes the amount of data delivered to the handset by up to 99%
- Attachment handling: As Momail works on the native platform of the handset, it is much easier to save attachments to the phone, as well as attach photos stored in the phone

What is your experience? We'd love to hear!

No Java required

While it is great to see Gmail continuing to improve its mobile mail service - and its recognition of the growth of consumer email - there are some drawbacks to its updated service. Mainly, Google continues to rely on Java, which (as even they admit) can only work on Java enabled handsets. Relying on Java not only limits the handset models on which the service is available, Java apps also requires alot of memory, and not all handsets have the amount needed - especially if you want to also have photos, music, videos, etc. on your handsets.

Momail has a better solution! As we work on the native platforms of the majority of handsets in the market today, no Java, Symbian, Android, etc. is required. And, for all the mobile Gmail users - Momail supports Gmail - as well as Yahoo!, Hotmail, and your favorite ISP and webmail services. Just set it up under "Email Accounts" within your Momail account.

And... just in time for Christmas, Momail works on upcoming "iPhone killers" - thus increasing the number of supported handsets to 1200 different models.
